Interestingly all the heroines of the three category romance novels I read were more or less strong and capable (ironically the best of them had the most damsel-like heroine and I liked her best!); the trick was that the hero was always stronger and more capable, and that the woman always felt so "protected" by his "strong embrace" or whatever; like she reverts to a baby in the presence of his testesterone aura. I know love is surrender and they write that surrended on each side of the romance, that I like; but masculine prowess does seem a little fetishized here. I guess I can play it without the squick factor to some degree, though I worry my squick is the next girl's turn-on! But that is the kind of challenge that makes the project seem interesting despite everything.

I would definitely be writing under a pen name... But you made me think of this also as more than something to do for fun or as a money-making scheme. To actually have to try and fit into a time-honoured formula should also make it easier to detect other useable models on which to hang a more original story.
